Some scientists of ISL (French-German Research Institute of Saint-Louis) considered that a different approach can bring results: instead of conforming to the laws of the market (because the profit to be expected from the mine clearance is not enough attractive for the manufacturers), they decide to launch
research and basic studies, with a strictly humanitarian motivation and on a benevolent basis.
The issue is to making sensitive the scientists, the technicians, the engineers to the problem of the mine clearance, of making them think about new solutions or about seldom investigated ways.
Researches and studies are made in the establishments of scientific and technical education, in the research laboratories, by post-graduates, trainees or students, within the framework of their school programme or at least by the ARTID's members (as is the case for DEMICHAIN)
During their schooling, the students - have to realise a project showing that they are capable of handling a technical problem. Our association suggests them choosing a subject dealing with the improvement of a technique of mine clearance.
The students of the University can also think about a scientific subject handling with techniques of mine clearance. It is possible as well that students of the high schools, supervised by their professors, think also about a technique of mine clearance.
ARTID established a list of subjects of studies which can be made by students of various levels.
The scientists, the engineers, the technicians, professionals or retired, can also bring their experience and their competence.
Very recently, ARTID began to study a new tool for mechanical mine clearance : a
grid of heavy chains is dropped in a FREE FALL on the ground and triggers the landmines DEMICHAINJust now, we encounter the problem of coupling the DEMICHAIN device with the carrier : crane or hydraulic arm (backhoe, tractor). It has to lift a chains device and to drop it in a free fall. If your cup of tea is these devices, send us a mail.
We are looking for testing DEMICHAIN on real landmines. If you are clearing landmines, let us test our device on these mines, send us a mail.
